This section will give a brief introduction about providing thorough, adapted consumer education to families of children with disabilities and other special child care needs. We will briefly touch on Person-First and Identity-First Language use and preference, as well as the needs that families may have when seeking child care for children with disabilities and other special care needs.

Hear Kathy speak about the challenges she faced during her search for the right child care program and how she was able to work with a program to meet the needs of her children and family. As you listen, keep in mind the question posed in the final section of the training about whether it is advisable for families to share details about a child’s special child care needs, especially if they feel it may hinder their chances of securing a slot in a program.
